Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the Bushnell Golf GPS and cart-based GPS system?

A: Cart-based systems typically have more features related to golf course services and only work on the course where they are installed. Since there are only a small percentage of courses that can afford this, the Bushnell Golf GPS is the solution. It was designed to be a lightweight portable ranging device for the golfer instead of the golf course.

Q: Is the Yardage Pro GPS legal during play?

A: The R&A and the U.S. Golf Association have sanctioned the use of distance measuring devices, including GPS based systems. New decision 14-3/0.5 allows a committee to permit the use of distance measuring devices by Local Rule. This applies to devices that measure distance only, not any other conditions that may affect a player’s game such as wind or gradient. In the absence of such a Local Rule, the use of a distance measuring device remains contrary to the Rules. Unless a local rule is adopted, you should check with your golf professional prior to use in a USGA sanctioned event.

A: The Hybrid was designed to be permissible when the Local Rule permitting the use of distance-measuring devices is in effect. This is governed by the USGA’s Decision as it relates to Distance Measuring Devices (14-3/0.5 Local Rule Permitting Use of Distance-Measuring Device), which sets forth that players are allowed to use these in rounds conducted under the Rules of Golf when the Committee adopts the Local Rule, as long as they only measure distance. Q: How do I register my Hybrid?

A: Within 45 days of purchase, go to iGolf.com to register your Hybrid, which will update the pre-loaded GPS course data and load any new courses that have been recently added to the iGolf database. This can be done easily at anytime. First make sure your Hybrid is connected to the computer, and that you are logged in to your iGolf.com account. Then, simply click the ‘Sync Device’ button-this will download all updated and new course data to your Hybrid.

Q: What is the advantage of using the Bushnell Golf GPS over a laser rangefinder?

A: With the Bushnell Golf GPS, you can determine the distance to objects that are not in your line of sight. The Bushnell can provide you with distances to the green that are difficult to get with lasers. With rangefinders you can over shoot the green, and struggle to hold the rangefinder steady. With the Golf GPS you get immediate feedback; you won’t have to worry about holding up play.

Q: Why are the GPS distances not matching the laser distances?

A: The laser will give you the distance to objects in your line of sight. The most common example would be the flag which normally is not in the exact center, front edge or back edge of the green. GPS readings in the Hybrid will give you distances to the front, center and back of the green as well as key hazards. Rarely will a golfer measure the same points using the GPS and the laser. In the case where the GPS clearly does not appear to be accurate, such as the laser shows 150 yards to the flag which is situated near the center of the green and the GPS reading for the front shows 160 yards. This may indicate that the GPS course file is out of date and should be corrected. GPS corrections can be submitted directly to our mapping partner by email: courseupdate@l1inc.com.
